Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is a kind of nerve damage that happens in diabetes. It leads to pain, numbness and tingling sensation, loss of feeling in hands, legs and arms. For some people the symptoms are mild whereas for some people it can be very painful and may affect their daily routine. The disease can be fatal and can lead to foot amputation in people with diabetes.

Around 60 to 70 percent of people with diabetes have some form of neuropathy. People with diabetes can develop nerve problems at any point of life, but risk rises with age and longer duration of diabetes.

In Ayurveda, vata dosha is responsible for maintaining the functions of nerves. Abnormal function of vata dosha are responsible for neuropathy in people with diabetes.
