Hydronephrosis or swollen kidney Ayurvedic treatment

WHAT IS HYDRONEPHROSIS OR SWOLLEN KIDNEY?

Hydronephrosis is the swelling of the kidney that occurs due to accumulation of urine in it. For some reasons, due to a blockage or obstruction of the ureters (duct in which urine passes from the kidneys to the bladder), the urine being formed in the kidneys cannot move out and gets retained inside the kidneys, leading to swelling of the kidneys. This can happen either in any one or both of the kidneys.1

In Ayurveda, kidney infections are covered under a broad term called Mutrakricchra and Mutraghata (Difficulty in urination) that includes the conditions of kidney and urinary tract infection.2
